Until
1966 Orlando was home to a population of just 60,000, an air force base
and a large citrus industry, then something happened which changed the
area forever - Disney arrived!!
Walt
Disney World opened to the public on October 1st 1971 and with it came
an influx of tourists resulting in Orlando being the number one tourist
destination in the world today. Current figures show that over 45
million tourists visit the area every year, that's more than the entire
population of California.
The
population of the Orlando metropolitan area currently stands at over 1.5
million people and is one of the fastest growing communities not only in
Florida but in the US.

With
the huge success of the Magic Kingdom, Disney has continued to expand
the site with further parks over the years. EPCOT was opened to the
public on October 1st 1982, Disney/MGM Studios on May 1st 1989 and
Animal Kingdom on April 22nd 1998. Universal built its own Universal
Studios in 1990 and opened Islands of Adventure in 1999, while SeaWorld
has been an ever present since 1973.
Today
there are not only the world famous theme parks to visit but also
hundreds of smaller attractions and theme parks, all of which are set up
to cater for your entire family.
No matter how many times you visit or how long you stay, there is always
something new and exciting to experience.
Orlando's
future as the tourist capital of the world is certainly looking secured.
